Making it count in 2k09

jamie

In honor of Ja’mie’s frequent bouts of sincere self reflection, I thought I’d give a self improvement list a shot.

what i will try to do better in 2k09:

getting dressed:

not-hawt

In 2k09 I will strive to blend in more with my coworkers and embody the haute-bohemian Anthro look:

Do they want me to look like this?

Do they want me to look like this?

Listening to more sincere & powerful music:

I’m getting too old for erratic beatz and nonsensical (of the Of Montreal ilk) lyrics, right?  It’s time to get back to basics and settle in for the long haul.

better grooming habits:

furthering business ventures with clever marketing campaigns:

lizzie-eeshirtay

more exploitation of children for eeshirtay campaigns!

respectin’ my elders:

uhmmmm…..to be continued.

Being at home for kwanzaa has made me really miss college winter break.  I really miss spending money that wasn’t mine to visit exotic locales and meet new, interesting, deep people.

talkin about proust n stuff

talkin about proust n stuff

so i started daydreaming about some awesome potential vacays that i can’t take for at least a year (hellooo shitty new job vacation policy) and came up with some ideas:

paris_street1

grand-canyon

rio-travel

But instead of chillin with the big JC, I’m in my parents’ study watching 27 Dresses and talking to you guys.

Peace out!

Christmas in Buffalo

I’ve been listening to this song all night on repeat. Pay attention:

I was living in Seattle / I fought another losing battle / I was just another head in a herd of cattle / When I lost my job at Boeing / it rained for 40 days / and then there was a month of fog and haze / I knew that I better go east-aways.

and I was going, I was going / Now it’s ho, ho, ho / It’s Christmas in Buffalo / I’m Santa Claus in department stores and all I see is snow / ho, ho, ho / It’s Christmas in Buffalo / I’m ole St. Nick and I’m so heartsick ‘cuz I got no place to go

It’s a long time since I seen you girl and a long time to be alone / My heart is grieving from the pain from the leaving you / If i could only send for you, it would be sunny day in May

Seasons greetings / Merry christmas and a happy new year / I really want to hold you near but it’s so hard on a Santa’s pay

Now it’s ho, ho, ho / It’s Christmas in Buffalo / Kids sit on my knees they say “Santa please” but Daddy, he aint got the dough / Ho, ho, ho / It’s Christmas in Buffalo / I’m ole St Nick and I’m so heartsick cuz i have no place to go / ho, ho, ho, ho

Upon first listen, all I wanted to do is make Billy Joel jokes and talk about a Pavlovian response to fake southern accents. Five listens later you want to curl up on your couch and pick up your pet hamster and let him know everything will be OK, you know? Who is this lady? Why didn’t Jim just go to his parent’s house in Brooklyn instead of trying to “make it” upstate? Did the Santa costume cause chafe?

Seriously though, I love Christmas in Buffalo. I love the idea of Seattle as a Boeing job rather than a bohemian escape. That’s some hard shit.

prospective touristing plans

My dear friend Shmayne, who is a local, highly recommended a lovely bar/foodery called Show N’ Tell on Delaware Ave. Perhaps I can take my parents next time they’re in Philly?

Googling yields two results:

show-n-tell-school1and this:

Why is everything (and everyone) in Philly so misleading?

Something else that is baffling about this city…

SUBWAY TOKENZ

i-hate-tokenwhy can’t this exist instead?

philly-metrocard1The incessant jingle jangle of these effing tokens in my plaid/paisley/floral anthropologie pockets is almost too much to bear.

Which is why I need a car.

More about that later.

Things I’m pissed I’m missing in New York

December 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Being in Philadelphia and still reading all about events in New York can get slightly depressing during the holiday season.  For starters, I found this nifty upcoming event today:

http://smacdown.tumblr.com/

After having an insane mushroom-laden Le Creuset encased pot of mac at R.Scherm’s this past weekend, I’m having obsessive mid-day thoughts about this dish.  I totally would enter this contest (or at least pay the $10 to eat my face off).  A few ideas for the best new mac in the land include:

GEFILTE MAC

could-be-gefilte

Or…an ode to PHILLY MAC

questionable substance mac

questionable substance mac

or lastly—nostalgia mac

duritz!

duritz!

I welcome all other entry ideas.  This might just be something I take a half-day and ZipCar my ass to NYC for.

Oh yeah, this sounded pretty alright too:

sigh.
